MANILA, Philippines — Men with erectile dysfunction, according to the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the Philippine Sexual Health Foundation (PSHF), are at high risk of contracting the deadly sexually transmitted infection (STI).

The National Institute of Health (NIH), an international, nonprofit organization that works to increase awareness of STIs, is working to find more effective ways to treat and prevent the virus.

In a joint press conference with the U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Jonathan B. Mena, the U. national director of the NIH, and Dr. Robert H. Ehrlich, director of the U. Sexual Health Foundation, presented findings from the research that are being conducted to inform the international and national efforts to prevent and treat the disease.

"This is a highly innovative research project, which aims to create a better understanding of the impact of HIV/AIDS on the global population," Mena said. "We are working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to develop new therapies and to explore new treatments, such as combination therapies and novel treatments," he said.

Mena and the PPHF are working to provide a comprehensive public health grant for their work to improve the sexual health of men with HIV/AIDS, which includes information about sexual health and prevention.

Dr. B. Mena and other health experts will discuss the study in conjunction with the National Institute of Health's Sexual Health Advisory Committee.

"We are very pleased to have been chosen to present our findings at the International Society for HIV/AIDS Expert Meeting," Mena said. "This research is the first to provide a comprehensive picture of HIV and sexual health, including the potential risks associated with HIV and the role of STIs in the global population."

Ehrlich and Dr. Mena will each discuss their findings and take the opportunity to offer their expertise to the public at a conference next week in San Francisco.

The study is the latest effort by the NIH and PPHF to advance the research and to provide a comprehensive public health grant for men with HIV/AIDS.

"The NIH is proud to be working with the PPHF and the Sexual Health Foundation and its partner organizations to provide a public health grant to men with HIV/AIDS," said B. Tariro, director of the PPHF and PPHF Sexual Health Foundation. "We are pleased to be able to advance the public health efforts of men with HIV/AIDS."

Mena are the co-authors of the research published in the June 1, 2011, issue of theJournal of Sexual Medicine. Ehrlich is a member of the American Society of Sexual Medicine's International Sexual Medicine Collaborative Group and the Sexual Health Foundation's Sexual Medicine Research Group.

The PPHF is an international research affiliate of the U. National Institutes of Health. The PPHF is a member of the International Medical Education Project (IMEP) and the International Society for Sexual Medicine's Sexual Medicine Research Group.

Mena are both director of the sexual health research program at the PPHF and PPHF Sexual Health Foundation.

Ehrlich is director of the sexual health research program at the PPHF Sexual Health Foundation.

The pharmaceutical giant Pfizer has said it will not be charged in a lawsuit by an Australian court after it paid $1.6 million to settle allegations it used a counterfeit version of a drug for marketing.

The suit, filed in U. S. District Court in Sydney, said Pfizer, the world's biggest drug maker, had marketed Viagra in the United States since 1998.

The suit alleged Pfizer had used the drug to increase the sexual desire of Australian soldiers and Marines during World War II.

The lawsuit said Viagra and similar drugs for treating erectile dysfunction, including Pfizer's blockbuster erectile dysfunction drug, caused more than $4 billion in damages.

In 2013, Pfizer said it would pay $1.6 million to settle a lawsuit filed by the government against the companies.

The suit also alleged Pfizer had paid $1.7 million to settle an Australian court case that was brought against the company by a man who died from the condition in 1998.

In a statement, Pfizer said the suit was "not a request for payment but rather a request for the submission of evidence."

Pfizer's statement said the suit was not about the case, and the company would not comment on the lawsuit.

The case was heard by the Australian court. Pfizer said the government was seeking to recover the money.

The company said it was continuing to work with the government to try and resolve the case and to seek compensation.

Pfizer said it was investigating the case after a federal court ruling in 2016.

"The court has been informed that there may be circumstances under which a company may be liable to pay a portion of any damages that may have been recovered," the company said.

In its statement, Pfizer said it was reviewing the case and would update the company with a decision on the next steps.
